Not only was I born and raised in this lovely place, but my family has been there since early in the 20th century. So over time almost by osmosis I accumulated a lot of knowledge about my hometown. Even wrote the first-ever book about the music scene, which for a minute turned me into a local celebrity! (One of my MILESTONES.)
Portland has always had a profound sense of place. The performing arts theater that shouts her name is but one example. And catch the whimsical weather vane at Pioneer Courthouse Square. Every day at noon the animated oddity blares a clarion call and ushers up from its innards either a glorious sun or a snarling gargoyle, depending on the day's forecast.
Also from my deck I had the preeminent view of majestic Mt. Hood. And while gazing at my touchstone I started writing a novel. Ah, yes, I do love this city! All, that is, escept for her dreary grey skies and interminable rain. And that's why I found myself headed south to the SUN...
